Yet again time has run away with me…….Even I’m getting sick of hearing this age old excuse, and if I am you must be too. So I vow to never be in a situation where “I didn’t have the time to”. Wow - that is a big statement, and quite a bold one too wouldn’t you say?

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really sure where I was going with this blog entry when I started typing, but my big & bold statement has got me thinking “what else do I promise to do/not do?”. I guess that’s just a fancy way of talking about new year resolutions.

As the dawn of 2013 approached I reflected quite a lot on resolutions of years gone by, how successful I was at keeping them, and what would I like to do or not do, or give up or embark on in 2013. I think the earliest recollection I have of a new year resolution was “to be good for mummy and daddy”,  then when I nailed that one my resolutions were generally “to give up chocolate/sweets/naughty food and get fit”. Generally speaking these resolutions saw me pay extortionate amounts in gym membership fees/gym membership processing & administration fees/new gym trainers and outfits which inevitably sat in the wardrobe totally unloved. As you may have guessed I was stuck on those promises for a number of years, but a few years ago I admitted defeat and gave up on trying to succeed at those particular unattainable resolutions! But for the last few years I have  wanted to resolve to undertake something, rather than give something up, a something that will benefit someone or add value to someone, someone else less fortunate than me……. But what??? I suppose the charity day I helped organise with my friend last year was for the benefit of others, and the money we raised would certainly have helped the fight against cancer. So I guess that counts. And I guess that is my second promise; to organise another charity event at some point in 2013, an event that will raise money for people less fortunate than me.

A less altruistic promise I would aim to keep is to be more organised. My husband often (too often for my liking actually) says that I like to put on a front so that people think I’m organised when, actually, I’m not. As much as I hate to admit it, he has a point because sometimes our household paperwork does run away with me – guilty as charged. I would hazard a guess that I am not the first working wife to let such a thing happen and I am pretty certain I will not be the last. But that doesn’t make it right. So, even as we speak I am in the process of creating a masterful, all singing-all dancing, household management file. It will be a One-Stop-Shop for all things house related, the key to the well-oiled wheels of our little home. Never again will I miss a birthday or anniversary. Never will I need to rely on the emergency supply of cards that I have at home……. OK, OK I’ll come clean - all I have is the cover page at the moment……. but I know exactly what needs to be done to get it up and running so it’s as good as done. I just hope I don’t miss any January birthdays while I’m doing it.

There is definitely more to come on this topic but my lunch break just finished so I’d better get back to Tax Return-ing.

Happy new year everyone.

xXx
